Growth remains the top goal for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the Philippines, as business owners look for ways to expand their operations and reach more customers. But access to financing is still a major challenge.
As a Platinum Sponsor of the 18th Philippine SME Business Expo at the SMX Convention Center Manila, Skyro, an SEC-registered fintech lending company, brought a clear message to Filipino entrepreneurs: you don’t have to grow your business alone.
“The top priority of businesses is growth. But often, it is not enough for MSMEs to rely solely on their own efforts and ambitions. They must also tap outside resources available to them,” said Michael Tabaday, Head of SME at Skyro, during his presentation at the expo.
It’s a message that hits close to home. Citing a 2025 study by Boston Consulting Group, Skyro said 33% of MSMEs identified access to capital as one of their biggest business challenges, with 83% still relying on personal savings to sustain operations.
Tabaday added that for many SMEs, the bigger challenge is survival and business expansion, with 67% citing it as their primary concern. Even with these challenges, he emphasized that Filipino SMEs still have strong opportunities for sustainable growth through better access to financing, including flexible installment and credit solutions, stronger fintech and merchant partnerships, and greater adoption of digital payments and social commerce.
At the expo, Tabaday shared the benefits of partnering with Skyro, including up to a 30% increase in sales, access to more than 5 million customers, onboarding in as fast as 2 days, and marketing support. Businesses operating for at least six months, regardless of size, may become partners. The online application process can take as little as 10 minutes.
“We hope this serves as a gateway for many entrepreneurs to realize that financial lending companies like Skyro can be allies in achieving their hopes and dreams for their businesses and families,” Tabaday added.
At the company’s booth, Skyro engaged with hundreds of attendees through conversations about its merchant onboarding process, while offering free cookies, coffee, and merch giveaways. Attendees were also introduced to SkyroCredit and other financing solutions designed to help merchants expand their customer base and improve sales performance.
Joining Tabaday at the expo were John Joseph Pelegrino, Head of POS Online; Fitz Gerald Cruz, Business Development Manager; Mar Gregg Azanza, National Sales Manager - Agent Model; and Rhandy Zuela, National Sales Manager - Alternative Distribution Model.
Launched in the Philippines in 2022, Skyro has rapidly expanded its footprint nationwide, growing to over 9,000 partner stores, more than 3,000 merchant partners, and over 900,000 loans issued. The fintech company offers services including Product Loans, Cash Loans, and SkyroCredit, targeting both consumers and businesses seeking accessible financing options.
Skyro’s participation in the 18th Philippine SME Business Expo highlights its mission to provide accessible financial support to Filipinos, whether they are starting a business or looking to grow one.
